During the lockdown, rumors regarding the spread of Covid-19 through meat products spread quickly in India, even as the meat and poultry industries faced supply chain difficulties. And there was a huge drop in demand due to this. Even though myth-busting campaigns have subsequently established that fears of Covid-19 spreading through meat products are unfounded, a shift in attitude against animal products among sectors of Indian culture could be on the way.
Imagine Meats Startup
Recently Riteish and Genelia initiated a plant-based meat products startup- Imagine Meats in India. These plant-based meat products are developed by alternate sources of protein generated by fermented plants, cells. Plant-based foods are items composed solely of plant ingredients like pea protein and coconut oil that mimic the flavor and smell of animal flesh.
The company has teamed with Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) and Nutrition India, gaining access to expertise in food science, flavor development, and product development in Singapore, Berlin, and the United States.
In a country like India with such rising wages, India’s meat consumption is likely to skyrocket in the coming decades. So investment in startup Imagine meats is a great initiative.

Why should the fun be limited to non-vegetarians? Why aren’t vegetarians able to enjoy the same flavors as non-vegetarians?
Rise of Vegan Meat
According to a 2019 poll, 63 percent of Indians are eager to substitute beef with plant-based alternatives. In a country with a population of over a billion people, that’s a sizable market.
The global market for plant-based meat is estimated to reach 3290 million US dollars by 2025, representing a 12 percent increase in five years. This increase can be attributed to an increase in the number of individuals worldwide who eat a plant-based diet. And can help with health and environmental concerns. Plant-based meat is still new in India, although it is gaining popularity in big cities.
This is our first step toward preserving our ecosystem. With such vast agricultural biodiversity, we are providing our Indian farmers with a wide range of possibilities.
